First up a favorite COSRX.
My first COSRX product review was on October 29,2016 but my infatuation with this brand started a couple months earlier. I am enamored with the brand, from their philosophy to formulation.
so you can imagine my excitement when COSRX granted me this interview(beyond grateful).
How did COSRX begin?
Our CEO has been working in Cosmetic Industry for about 14 years. Based on his experience and collected information, he wanted to make a brand with reasonable price and effective products. This is how COSRX was founded.
What is your philosophy behind the brand
Our brand Philosophy is to offer people practical products that really help with skin concerns with good ingredients.
What makes COSRX different from other Korean skincare brands
We are different from the others that we do not use excessive number of ingredients. Instead, we use high quality active ingredients on reasonable prices.
One of the reason I was drawn to the COSRX brand was the simplicity of the ingredients, was this a conscious effort ?
Yes! As I mentioned above, our CEO has been listening to people’s skin problems, he collected numerous data about skin types and concerns. He wanted to exclude harmful ingredients that can cause irritation to skin and include stable natural ingredients. That is why we are keep trying to make the ingredients list simple.
10 step routine is synonymous with Korean skincare, is that important to using COSRX
We think it is not necessary to follow all the steps. It is not a fixed steps and it is important to find your own routine that fits on your skin condition.
Does synergy between products give better results or can individual products be used and still get results
Of course all the individual products can be used and get results. There are some products that will create synergy when used together. For example, we have Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol and Natural BHA Skin Emulsion. They will form a better synergy when used together. On the other hand, there are some products that cannot be used together too
One unique ingredient in Korean skincare is snail mucin, what are the benefits?
Snail Mucin is so effective in many ways. The components of mucin are allantoin, glycolic acid, collagen, and elastin. Allantoin is effective for soothing and reducing inflammation. Glycolic Acid helps with exfoliating and alleviating inflammation. Collagen and elastin work on moisturizing and improving skin elasticity. Snail Mucin repairs, nourishes skin and reduces redness.
How is snail mucin collected to create these products?
The snails excrete the slime while moving, and we just collect it. We offer snails a good condition not to make them stressed out. They periodically have enough time to take some rest and they stay in dark cozy room with music on. We know that some cruel companies just squeeze snails or grind them but we NEVER take that kind of terrible method to get snail secretion filtrate.
Acne and Hyperpigmentation are prevalent skin conditions among people of colour. What products on your range would you recommend for acne
I would like to recommend our One Step Original Clear Pad. It is pad product presoaked in toner. Betaine Salicylate component polishes away old dead skin cells that cause acne.
Hyperpigmentation?
I recommend Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence for hyperpigmentation. It is formulated with 95% Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, this essence nourishes and hydrates skin. This essence works to tone up, clear and refresh your dull skin.
One question I get frequently is in regards to the term "white" or lighting used on some labels like your " triple c lightening liquid or "mela 14 light ampoule . The concern is usually these products would bleach their skin. Is there cause for concern ?
Those products do have brightening function but it’s hard to say they
“bleach” your skin. Triple C Lightning Liquid contains 20.5% Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) which helps to brighten the overall skin tone.
Mela 14 contains Niacinamide which is a very effective ingredient for dullness, uneven skin tone, and fine lines. Active ingredients actually do work on your skin and gradually make your skin clearer and brighter.
My favorite product is the low PH GOOD MORNING GEL CLEANSER. Can you share the importance of using a mild acidic cleanser?
Most importantly, it does not damage the protect layer of your skin. Low pH cleanser helps to balance out the moisture and oil. You won’t feel tight after cleaning your face too!
What is in the future for COSRX ?
We will be keep working on producing more good products with reasonable prices. We’ve been listening to customer’s voices about their problems and needs. We will apply their opinions to make a better improvements.
