KRÈME CHATS WITH GBEMI OLATERU OLAGBEGI .ON AIR PERSONALITY AT THE BEAT 99.9, PROGRAM DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER GBEMISOKE SHOES

September 18, 2016

Months ago Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi , posted her skincare journey with acne on Instagram and I was impressed because it’s not every day a public figure opens up and is transparent about anything personal, so when she agreed to chat with us, I was over the moon because I believe that her experience could inspire someone else who is trying to figure out how to treat their acne or any other skin concerns . Beyond skincare, I admire her entrepreneurial spirit and determination. Thanks Gbemi for taking time out to be a part of the series.

How important is skincare to you?

Skincare is super important to me, I try to take care of my skin and myself in general.

Being in the public eye, does the condition of your skin matter?

It definitely matters. Even when you are not at an event or in front of the camera. People recognize me everywhere I go and I’m not saying I go grocery shopping dressed to the nines but I try to look presentable.

After reading your Instagram about how you dealt with acne I was really moved, can you share your treatment?

My dermatologist made me take Spironolactone to help balance my hormones. He also applied an intense chemical peel to my skin. This helped to shed the old dull skin. He then gave me a facial wash, acne lotion and sun screen from Mesoestic. I cleanse my face twice a day, I make sure I apply sunscreen and I drank and still drink a lot of water.

What is your skin type?

Oily with big pores.

Do you use SPF ?

Can't do without it! I reapply during the day. Take me through your skincare routine AM and PM - Cleanse with face wash, pat dry with a clean towel or let air dry. Put a little acne lotion on and sunscreen. (Same at night except that I don’t use sunscreen at night)

What is your favorite skincare treatment ?

Acne One lotion from Mesoestetic

What is the weirdest treatment you ever received, and did it work?

It was a three-layer facial from a spa in Lagos. It was literally a triple facial and was about 3 hours long. It didn't work. I spent a lot of money too!

Favorite spa or treatment center?

Right now? Medaestheticare in Lekki, Lagos.

What is the best skincare advice you have received and what is the worst?

Worst is not to wash my face thoroughly after a day of shooting for TV so the professional makeup can still kind of be on the next day, Terrible advice! Another one was to rub urine or sperm on my skin in the morning. So weird! I never did that!

The best was to let my skin breathe. I only put on makeup when I have to.

What is your current can't live without skincare product (if you had to run out of a burning building what product would you pick)?

My Cleanser and Acne lotion.

What is beauty to you?

Beauty is being comfortable with your features or enhancing them until you are satisfied.

Whose beauty inspires you ?

So many beautiful women to mention- Gabrielle Union, Genevieve Nnaji, Sanaa Lathan, Blake Lively, The Kardashians.

Please share one skincare tip for Krème readers

Always change your pillowcase at least twice a week and always wash your face at night. No matter what!
