NEUTROGENA HYDRO BOOST WATER GEL

June 02, 2017

A month ago, I reviewed Neutrogena hydro boost hydrating cleansing gel and unfortunately it fell below my expectations but it didn't deter me from giving another hydro boost product line a shot. In the spirit of summer, I figured I up my hydration internally and externally in order to give my skin a supple and plum look this season. To tell you the truth, I was expecting Neutrogena hydro boost water gel to fall into my “never ever” pile but luckily it escaped to the “maybe just maybe pile”.

HYDRO BOOST WATER GEL (CLAIM)

Instantly quenched dry skin and keeps it looking smooth, supple and hydrated day after day.  It absorbs quickly, like a gel but has the long lasting, intense moisturizing power cream. It boosts skin hydration level and locks it in all day.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

Dimethicone:  a form of silicone used to give products lubricity, slip, and good feel. it protects the skin against moisture loss when used in larger quantities.

Glycerin: a humectant used in moisturizers. It is water binding and able to draw and absorb water from the air, thus helping the skin retain moisture.

Dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone cross polymer: a thickener that can absorb skin oils, leaving a dry, silky feel.

Purified Hyaluronic acid (CLAIMED BY THE MANUFACTURER): it is a natural moisturizer with excellent water binding capabilities.

 CONCLUSION

PRO

  • If you are looking for a moisturizer that absorbs quickly then this is a good option. Pretty much when applied it glides on and sink into your skin.

  • Price-  very affordable and you can find it pretty much at any drugstore that sells Neutrogena.

  • It did not cause any reactions, breakouts or dryness.

 CONS

  • The first CON for me would have to be formulation of this moisturizer.  Looking at the top ingredients list, there is no form of hyaluronic acid mentioned. However, sodium hyaluronate is mentioned somewhere in the bottom (as highlighted on above in ingredients list) which tells me that the percentage of this ingredient is minimal There are other hydrating ingredients present like glycerin that would retain moisture and leave your skin feeling hydrated but I highly doubt the percentage of hyaluronic acid in this product is responsible for the hydration.

  • Fragrance:  I have to be completely honest, I can't stand the fragrance in this moisturizer.  It is too strong and it has an obvious synthetic marine scent.  Now if you don't mind fragrance then great but if you do be warned. However, the scent wears off about 5mins later so it’s bearable.

  • Packaging:  it comes in a regular screw top jar which is not too bad but my preference for moisturizers would be a package that would preserve the ingredients better and one that may be more hygienic.
